Through an Advance Decision, you can:
- Say what treatments you do not want to receive in the future.
- Set out the circumstances in when the refusal should apply.
Through an Advance Decision, you can't:
- Say what treatments you should receive in the future.
- Ask for any treatment that will end your life.
A statement giving a general desire not to be treated is not enough. For an Advance Decision to be legally valid, it must state precisely what treatment is to be refused and in which specific situation. Your Advance Decision will only apply if you lose the ability to make your own decisions in the future.
